In recent years we have introduced an Any Other Breed in hand heavy horse class and for the last two years a Ridden Heavy Horse class is a HOYS qualifier this year along with the ridden heavy. The Ridden class is judged in the main ring giving ample space to show off these gentle giants.

We also have a young handler qualifier class and the winner goes on to compete at the Shire Horse Foal Show held in September.

Livestock have long been an integral part of Ashbourne Show ; the Dairy Classes were started in 1925, followed by the Beef Classes in 1933 which then out stripped the Shire entries.

The beef section is particularly strong but in recent years we have seen a very good entry from the dairy farmers. We are lucky to have staunch local and not so local exhibitors who keep supporting the show. Any questions/queries get in touch we are all here to help.

The sheep classes were first introduced in 1957 and our entry numbers have climbed steadily particularly in recent years. More rare and native breeds are being kept and are regular competitors at the show. We offer a wide selection of breed classes and the ever popular young handler classes. Everyone welcome. 

Goats have been shown at Ashbourne since 1960 and over the years the Show has been host to some of the country’s most successful animals. People have travelled from all over the country to attend the show because of its friendly, well run, animal orientated atmosphere and also because it has always retained its “Country Show” feel which is important when you are an exhibitor.
